Drawing
Francesco Solimena was an Italian Baroque painter whose dynamic compositions and luminous palette defined the late-seventeenth and eighteenth-century Neapolitan school. Working in fresco and oil, he developed a distinctive approach to religious and allegorical narratives characterized by swirling draperies, complex spatial arrangements, and a refined chromaticism that moved beyond the dramatic chiaroscuro of his predecessors. Based in Naples, Solimena's large-scale altarpieces and ceiling frescoes established him as the dominant painter of his generation and region. His workshop trained numerous students who carried his influence across Europe.
