Llyn Foulkes was an American painter and assemblage artist whose large-scale works combined gestural abstraction with found objects, architectural fragments, and mixed media to create densely layered visual environments. Working primarily in Los Angeles from the 1950s onward, he developed a distinctive approach that resisted easy categorization within postwar movements, instead synthesizing elements of expressionism, assemblage, and environmental installation. His practice engaged with the urban landscape and the accumulated detritus of American consumer culture as both formal material and conceptual subject matter.
