James Pitcairn-Knowles was a Scottish-born painter, graphic artist, and sculptor who spent his career based in Germany, principally in Wiesbaden. His work was exhibited in the spa town where he also commissioned the construction of Schloss Freudenberg. He is regarded as a significant figure among the Wiesbaden painters of his era.
