Gregory Ain was an American architect and designer who pioneered modest, modernist housing for middle-income families in postwar Los Angeles. Working with prefabricated materials and standardized components, he developed efficient floor plans and open interior spaces that rejected both ornamental traditionalism and the isolating sprawl of suburban development. His approach combined social idealism with practical building methods, creating experimental residential communities that demonstrated modernism could serve ordinary households rather than wealthy patrons alone.
