Annette Messager assembles installations from soft toys, fabric, netting, photographs, and colored pencil drawings, building dense accumulations that probe domesticity, the body, and femininity with sardonic tenderness. Her work refuses clean categorical boundaries, folding the handmade and the abject into arrangements that are simultaneously intimate and unsettling. She represented France at the 2005 Venice Biennale, where her installation was awarded the Golden Lion.
