Terry Winters makes paintings, drawings, and prints that treat abstraction as an investigation into systems, spatial fields, and the material act of mark-making itself. His compositions emerge from mathematical and cybernetic concepts as well as observation of natural and scientific phenomena, yielding forms that occupy an ambiguous space between pure abstraction and legible reference. Working in New York since the 1970s, Winters has consistently examined how painting can register both the physicality of the medium and invisible structural logics simultaneously.
