Sarah Lucas makes sculpture, installation, and collage that weaponises found objects and bawdy visual puns to probe gender, sexuality, and the body. Emerging from the Young British Artists generation in the late 1980s, she is known for assembling everyday materials, including cigarettes, fried eggs, and stockings, into figures that are bluntly confrontational. Her formal approach is deliberately crude, using the cheap and the disposable to puncture social propriety. She represented Britain at the 2015 Venice Biennale.
