Why this artist matters now
Martin Disler was a Swiss painter and draughtsman whose gestural abstractions emerged from the postwar European expressionist tradition. Working primarily in oil and charcoal, he developed a visual language of densely layered marks and fractured forms that conveyed psychological intensity and emotional turbulence. His work engaged with the legacy of abstract expressionism while maintaining a distinctly European sensibility rooted in existential inquiry.
