Why this artist matters now

I was born in Santa Monica, California, in 1945, and I have lived in San Diego County since 1974. I graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California in 1979.  I then received a Regents Fellowship to pursue a Master of Fine Arts at UCSD.  I was awarded Ford and Mayer Grants for my graduate work which focused on making a number of films and videotapes about popular myths and iconography that reinforce cultural values.   I received my MFA in 1983. Between 1983 and 1989, my professional career consisted of heading a video production company, being an architectural photographer, and teaching at UCSD and Mesa College.  During that time, my personal work took the form of photographic juxtapositions depicting incongruities between natural and artificial landscapes.
