Gaetano Gandolfi was an Italian painter, draughtsman, and sculptor of the late Baroque period active in Bologna. He worked across fresco and canvas, executing biblical, mythological, allegorical, and portrait subjects with a refinement that secured major commissions from European courts. His technical facility and compositional clarity placed him among the leading artists of his generation, alongside his older brother Ubaldo, establishing Bologna as a continuing center of artistic authority in the late eighteenth century.
