Cheyney Thompson is an American painter whose work applies systematic and algorithmic processes to the conventions of painterly production. Mathematical structures, color theory, and economic models are embedded directly into the compositions, which are built to foreground the conditions of their own making rather than conceal them. The result is a body of work that treats painting as a site of procedural and conceptual inquiry, where the rules governing each piece are as legible as its surface. His paintings and related works have been presented at the MIT List Visual Arts Center.
