Carl Oscar Borg was an American painter known for landscape and orientalist works executed in oil and watercolor. Born in Sweden and trained in European academies, he developed a reputation for luminous depictions of desert and mountainous terrain, particularly in the American Southwest and North Africa. His work combined precise observation of light and atmospheric condition with a romantic sensibility toward exotic and remote locations. Borg maintained a prolific studio practice throughout the early-to-mid twentieth century.
