John Byam Shaw was a British painter and illustrator active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Working primarily in oil and watercolor, he specialized in narrative and figurative subjects drawn from literature, mythology, and contemporary life. Shaw was a founder and principal of the Byam Shaw School of Art in London, an institution that shaped British art education during his lifetime and beyond.
