About

Why this artist matters now

Francisco Borès was a Spanish painter whose work navigated between figuration and abstraction across the twentieth century. Active from the 1920s onward, he developed a distinctive approach to color and form that drew on both Cubist structure and Surrealist sensibility. His paintings employ a controlled palette and geometric discipline to explore the relationship between representation and pure visual form. Borès maintained a contemplative distance from dominant movements of his era, working primarily from his studio in Paris and Spain.
