Justine Kurland is an American photographer known for large-scale color photographs depicting communities of young people and families living outside conventional social structures. Working primarily in the 1990s and 2000s, she documented nomadic groups, squatters, and self-made communities with a documentary sensibility inflected by constructed tableaux and romantic painterly composition.
