Mary Lee Bendolph
Mary Lee Bendolph is an American quilter born in 1935 whose work emerges from the Gee's Bend quilting tradition of rural Alabama. Working primarily in cotton scraps and salvaged textiles, she constructs abstract geometric compositions that transform domestic waste into formal arrangements of striking chromatic intensity. Her quilts operate simultaneously as functional objects and rigorous color studies, each piece a record of material constraint and aesthetic invention.
