Robert Moskowitz was an American painter whose large-scale canvases reduced iconic subjects, the Empire State Building, a solitary tree, a ship's smokestacks, to their essential geometric silhouettes. Working primarily in oil and acrylic on canvas from the 1970s onward, he distilled photographic source material into stark, minimalist compositions that hover between representation and abstraction.
