Maarten Van Severen
Maarten Van Severen was a Belgian furniture designer and sculptor whose austere wooden forms emerged from a rigorous investigation of material restraint and structural clarity. Working primarily in ash and other light woods, he created furniture pieces and sculptural objects distinguished by minimal gesture and precise joinery, resisting ornament in favor of essential geometric relationships. His practice bridged craft tradition and contemporary art discourse in postwar Belgian design culture.
