Rules of Bending Circles

Since the early 1970s, Fisher has worked in a mode that can roughly be described as narrative. For the artist, the narrative is mediated between text—or an allusion to something verbal—and the formal properties of composition and marks. Fisher's recent work is made with chalk on prepared panels that look like blackboards.

Printmaking
Vernon Fisher is an American artist born in 1943 whose practice spans drawing, painting, photography, and installation. Working within postwar abstraction and conceptual frameworks, Fisher integrates text, found imagery, and mixed media to examine language, perception, and the relationship between visual form and meaning. His work is characterized by a restrained formal vocabulary that privileges investigation over decoration.
