Helen Chadwick was a British artist working across photography, sculpture, and installation who investigated the body and its fluids with unflinching directness. Her practice engaged abject materials, bodily processes, and domestic spaces to dismantle boundaries between the sacred and the visceral. Working from the 1970s until her death in 1996, Chadwick created provocative installations and photographic sequences that interrogated cultural taboos around menstruation, decay, and bodily waste. Her work operated outside institutional frameworks and anticipated later feminist and queer approaches to embodiment in contemporary art.
