Untitled

Untitled (1992) exemplifies the transfigurations and transmutations in Jasper Johns’s art. This print is a culmination of Johns’s key ideas and symbols from the mid-1970s through the 1980s. Included are areas of hatching (a 1970s motif), details from The Seasons cycle, and tracings from Matthias Grünewald’s Isenheim Altarpiece (c. 1510–15), which appears in Johns’s Perilous Night of 1982 (1989.82).
