Susan Rothenberg is an American painter first recognized in the late 1970s for large-scale canvases depicting roughly rendered horses, stark silhouettes that reasserted figuration within a predominantly abstract moment. Her later paintings extended into fragmented human forms, animals, and desert landscapes, built through gestural, layered brushwork in muted palettes.
