Alex Moulton was a British engineer and designer whose postwar practice centered on the bicycle as both functional object and design problem. Working from the 1950s onward, he developed compact wheeled vehicles with small wheels and suspension systems that challenged the conventions of bicycle geometry. His Moulton Bicycle, produced from 1962, became an icon of British design innovation, distinguished by its aluminum frame, rubber suspension, and folding capability. Beyond the bicycle, Moulton applied his engineering precision to other consumer products, maintaining a philosophy that form and function were inseparable.
