Artist

Mangelos, the nom de plume of Dimitrije Bašičević, was a Croatian painter and conceptual artist who emerged in the postwar period. Working primarily with language, erasure, and found materials, he created collages and altered books that challenged conventional notions of artistic authorship and meaning. His practice privileged the textual and the mundane, often obscuring or obliterating printed matter to reveal hidden layers of meaning beneath mass-produced surfaces.
