Nasreen Mohamedi was an Indian painter and draughtsman whose abstract geometric works evolved from rigorous formal investigation into line, grid, and spatial proportion. Working primarily in graphite, ink, and oil on paper and canvas from the 1960s onward, her compositions balance mathematical precision with a meditative, almost ascetic restraint. Her practice emerged during India's postwar modernist period and remained largely independent of international art movements, grounded instead in a sustained dialogue between geometry and perception.
