Lowell Nesbitt was an American painter whose large-scale floral and botanical works transformed domestic plant forms into monumental, luminous abstractions. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas during the 1960s and 1970s, he rendered close-up views of flowers and leaves with an almost photographic precision before dissolving them into sweeping fields of color and light. His paintings occupied a distinctive space between botanical study and pure abstraction, employing intense, often acidic hues that pushed the boundaries between representation and non-objective form.
