Panamarenko was a Belgian artist and inventor who created kinetic sculptures and fantastical flying machines that merged art with experimental engineering. Working across drawing, sculpture, and large-scale mechanical installations, he developed a distinctive practice rooted in the logic of flight, aeronautics, and impossible mechanics. His meticulous technical drawings and full-scale prototypes explored the boundary between artwork and functioning contraption, often incorporating bicycle parts, wood, and metal into elaborate aerial systems. His work occupied a singular territory between Fluxus sensibility and obsessive engineering.
