Judy Dater is an American photographer known for intimate black-and-white portraits that explore identity, desire, and the female body with unflinching directness. Working primarily in gelatin silver print since the 1960s, she pioneered a confessional approach to portraiture that challenged conventions of beauty and representation. Her photographs often feature subjects in states of vulnerability or self-presentation, frequently collaborating with performer and artist Jack Welpott.
