Wojciech Fangor
Painting
Wojciech Fangor was a Polish painter and sculptor whose optical abstractions emerged from the postwar reconstruction of Eastern European modernism. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, he developed a geometric vocabulary of concentric circles and modulated color fields that create a sense of spatial depth and visual vibration. His work occupied a distinctive position between the formalist abstraction of the West and the socialist realist pressures of Cold War Poland, establishing him as a key figure in the Polish avant-garde from the 1950s onward.
