Painting

Jan Lebenstein was a Polish painter and sculptor whose work emerged from postwar abstraction and figuration. Active from the 1950s onward, he developed a distinctive visual language combining gestural mark-making with biomorphic forms, often working across canvas, paper, and three-dimensional works. His practice engaged with the tension between representation and abstraction, rooted in the artistic ferment of postwar Eastern Europe.
