Alan Reynolds was a British painter and printmaker whose abstract works evolved from constructivist principles toward a refined geometric vocabulary of intersecting planes and subtle color modulation. Active from the 1950s onward, his practice engaged with the formal possibilities of the picture plane through carefully calibrated compositions that resisted both pure abstraction and representation. Reynolds worked primarily in oil paint, gouache, and printmaking media, developing a distinctive approach to spatial illusion through layered, translucent forms.
