Toshiko Okanoue is a Japanese photographer and painter active in the postwar period. Working primarily in black and white photography and collage, she constructed abstract compositions from fragmented domestic objects, architectural details, and human forms, creating a visual language distinct from both Western abstraction and Japanese tradition. Her work engaged with the material conditions and psychological dislocations of postwar Japanese society.
