Blue Gypsy

Gustave Singier was a Belgian painter whose abstract compositions emerged in the postwar period, developing a lyrical approach to non-representation through gestural mark-making and restrained color fields. Working primarily in oil on canvas, his work bridges geometric abstraction and expressive abstraction, avoiding both rigid systematization and pure gesture. Singier's formal vocabulary prioritized the tension between form and dissolution, the defined and the atmospheric.
