Basil Spence was a British architect whose postwar designs fundamentally shaped the landscape of institutional and civic building in the United Kingdom. Working primarily in modernist concrete and steel, he designed the Coventry Cathedral, a landmark reconstruction that became emblematic of British postwar renewal, alongside significant university, hospital, and commercial structures.
