Theodoros Stamos was a Greek-American abstract painter whose work emerged from the postwar New York School. Working primarily in oil on canvas, he developed a lyrical abstraction rooted in nature, particularly the forms and light conditions of Greek islands and the American landscape. His paintings combine gestural mark-making with a meditative treatment of color and atmospheric space, creating compositions that suggest geological or cosmic phenomena without direct representation.
