Wilson Bigaud
Painting
Wilson Bigaud was a Haitian painter working in the naïve tradition, known for densely populated scenes of daily life, ritual, and spiritual experience rendered in bright acrylic and oil. Active from the 1940s onward, his work emerged alongside Haiti's mid-century modernist movement and reflected the visual culture of Port-au-Prince and rural communities. His compositions layered multiple perspectives and scales within single frames, creating a flattened, frieze-like pictorial space that accommodated narrative and symbolic content simultaneously.
