Painting

Milton Resnick was a Ukrainian-born abstract painter who developed a gestural, densely layered approach to color and surface beginning in the 1950s. Working primarily in oil on canvas, he built compositions through accidental discovery and physical intervention, scraping, marking, and overpainting to create dense visual fields where figure and ground dissolve into one another. His practice emerged from postwar abstraction but resisted the geometric clarity of his contemporaries, favoring instead an intuitive, process-driven engagement with the material itself.
