Karl Knaths
Painting
Karl Knaths was an American painter working in oil and watercolor who developed a distinctive abstract vocabulary from landscape and still life observation. Active from the early twentieth century through the 1960s, he synthesized cubist fragmentation with a restrained, earthy palette to create compositions of considerable formal subtlety. His work oscillated between representation and abstraction without fully committing to either, maintaining a tension between depicted form and pure pictorial structure that distinguished his approach from more doctrinaire modernisms of his era.
