John Ferren was an American abstract painter and sculptor who worked primarily in the postwar period, developing a geometric vocabulary rooted in color relationships and spatial construction. Active from the 1930s onward, his paintings combined rigorous formal order with chromatic intensity, positioning him within the mid-century American abstraction movement. Ferren's approach emphasized the structural properties of color itself as a generative force in composition.
