Burial of a Veteran

Mario Urteaga was a Peruvian painter and muralist active in the early twentieth century. Working primarily in oil on canvas, he depicted scenes of Andean rural life and indigenous communities with an ethnographic attention to costume, gesture, and landscape. His work contributed to a broader artistic interest in indigenous subject matter among Peruvian artists of his generation.
