Albert Besnard was a French painter and printmaker active from the 1870s through the early twentieth century, known for large-scale murals and portraiture executed in a Symbolist idiom. Besnard also produced significant bodies of etching and lithography, bringing a luminous, atmospheric quality to both printmaking and easel painting.
