Wyndham Lewis was a British painter, sculptor, and writer who founded Vorticism, an avant-garde movement that synthesized Cubism and Futurism into a distinctly angular, machine-inflected aesthetic. His paintings and drawings employed sharp, geometric forms and violent color contrasts to capture movement and urban energy in the early twentieth century. Lewis was equally prolific as a novelist and essayist, producing satirical works that challenged modernism's pieties.
