Frits Thaulow was a Norwegian painter known for his naturalistic landscapes and river scenes executed in oil. Working across the late 19th century, he developed a distinctive approach to plein-air painting that captured the moody atmospheres of Scandinavian water and woodland. His work bridged romantic landscape tradition and emerging impressionist sensibilities, with particular focus on the effects of light and seasonal change on riverbanks and coastal subjects.
