József Rippl-Rónai was a Hungarian painter and printmaker who worked across oil, tempera, and decorative arts during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His practice bridged Post-Impressionism and Art Nouveau, characterized by flattened planes, rhythmic line, and a palette of muted earth tones and jewel colors. Active across Europe, he developed a distinctive approach to interior decoration and easel painting that emphasized pattern and psychological restraint over narrative spectacle. His work remains central to early modernism in Central Europe.
