Charles Hopkinson was an American portrait painter working primarily in oil during the early to mid-twentieth century. Active in Boston and New York, he developed a reputation for direct, formally composed likenesses of prominent sitters from academic, political, and cultural institutions. His work adheres to a restrained representational approach characteristic of American portraiture between the wars.
