Théodore Rousseau was a French draughtsman and landscape painter of the 19th century. Born in Paris in 1812, he became a central figure in the Barbizon school, working primarily from nature in the Forest of Fontainebleau. His drawings and paintings captured the atmospheric effects of rural French terrain with particular attention to light, weather, and seasonal change.
