Painting
Jan Willem Pieneman was a Dutch painter of historical scenes and portraits active in the nineteenth century. Born in Amsterdam in 1779, he worked primarily in oils, documenting significant civic and military events of his era through large-scale narrative compositions. His approach combined academic training with direct engagement with contemporary subjects, establishing him as a prominent figure in Dutch history painting during the Restoration period. He died in 1853.
