Sculpture
Benedetto da Maiano was an Italian Renaissance sculptor active primarily in Florence during the latter fifteenth century. Working in marble and terracotta, he created portrait busts, architectural ornament, and religious reliefs that exemplified the naturalistic ideals of the Florentine school. His workshop produced commissions for major Florentine families and institutions, establishing him as a significant figure in the transition from early to high Renaissance sculptural practice.
