Artist

François Dufrêne was a French artist and founding member of the Lettrist movement, active in Paris from the 1950s onward. He worked primarily with sound poetry, audio collage, and experimental phonetic composition, treating the human voice as a sculptural and sonic material. His practice rejected conventional linguistic meaning in favor of raw vocalization and tape-based assemblage, positioning him at the intersection of visual art, music, and literature during the postwar avant-garde.
