About

Why this artist matters now

Marion Mahony Griffin was an American architect and architectural delineator whose hand-rendered watercolor presentations established a visual language for organic architecture in the early twentieth century. Working with her husband Walter Burley Griffin, she integrated landscape design with residential planning through topographical study and spatial continuity. Her drawings for projects including the master plan for Canberra, Australia, demonstrated an ecological sensitivity to site that influenced the relationship between building and land. Griffin's delineation techniques became foundational to modern architectural visualization.
